Book Review: Hourglass (Evernight #3) by Claudia Gray

Title: Hourglass (Evernight #3)
Author: Claudia Gray
Publisher: Harper Collins
Publishing Date: July 2010
Length: 256 pages
Genre: YA, fantasy, paranormal romance
Source: Bought

After escaping from Evernight Academy, the vampire boarding school, Bianca and Lucas seek refuge with Black Cross, the elite group of vampire hunters led by Lucas’s stepfather. When Bianca’s close friend—the vampire Balthazar—is captured by Black Cross, Bianca knows she has to do whatever it takes to save him. But at what cost?

Summary by Goodreads

In STARGAZER we finally learn more about Lucas’ background and life in Blackcross. I liked the Blackcross charaters as much as the Evernight cast, maybe even more. The vampires might be driven by raw instincts, but Blackcross members are taught to be tough.

STARGAZER was exciting, but Bianca’s and Lucas’ situation in HOURGLASS is even more intense. Although they can be together 24/7, they haven’t one single second to enjoy their new closeness since they are now spending their days with Blackcross. The constant danger surrounding them is what adds more pep to their relationship.

This novel is marked by unexpected events. I wanted to see how Gray was going to solve certain conflicts. In the end she solved them but at the same time created new ones. Something very uncommon for YA happens in this novel, which surprised me and I admire Gray’s chose that path.

So that we don’t get bored by its dominant love story, Claudia Gray involves new villains to uphold the story’s drive. I experienced HOURGLASS as a rather serious and poetic book with its happy moments that have a bittersweet aftertaste.

1) birthday parties need more action
2) of its sexy make-out scenes
3) we finally get more info about Blackcross
4) we love heroes with a good taste in jewellery
5) of its extended action scenes

EVERNIGHT fans prepare yourselves for an awesome, varied third novel, that leaves you craving the final instalment!

Teaser Tuesday #21 feat. City of Fallen Angels

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading and it asks us to...

City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

"Clary felt her lips tremble, and pressed them together, hard, to stop the shaking. Sometimes she forgot the more nightmarish aspects of being a Shadowhunter- This life of scars and killing, as Hodge had said to her once."

~ p. 136-137

Happy Release Day to Cassandra Clare and her newest novel CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS, of course I love it so far!
