New UK Cover: Uglies, Pretties, Specials by Scott Westerfeld

Today SHAY'S STORY, a graphic novel version of UGLIES is released in the US. Congratulations Scott Westerfeld!

"This whole game is just designed to make us hate ourselves."--Shay
"Uglies "told Tally Youngblood's version of life in Uglyville and the budding rebellion against the Specials. Now comes an exciting graphic novel revealing "new "adventures in the Uglies world--as seen through the eyes of Shay, Tally's rebellious best friend who's not afraid to break the rules, no matter the cost.
A few months shy of her sixteenth birthday, Shay eagerly awaits her turn to become a Pretty--a rite-of-passage operation called "the Surge" that transforms ordinary Uglies into paragons of beauty. Yet after befriending the Crims, a group of fellow teens who refuse to take anything in society at face value, Shay starts to question the whole concept. And as the Crims explore beyond the monitored borders of Uglyville into the forbidden, ungoverned wild, Shay must choose between the perks of being Pretty and the rewards of being real.

Summary by Goodreads

And because Scott Westerfeld's trilogy UGLIES is such a great success, Simon & Schuster UK republishes the series at the end of March. Here are the brand new UK covers for UGLIES, PRETTIES and SPECIALS!

Uglies is set in a world in which everyone has an operation when they turn sixteen, making them supermodel beautiful. Big eyes, full lips, no one fat or skinny. You might think this is a good thing, but it’s not. Especially if you’re one of the Smokies, a bunch of radical teens who’ve decided they want to keep their own faces. (How anti-social of them.)

Uglies is a trilogy-plus-one, with Extras being a “companion novel” and told from a different point of view. All four Uglies books have been New York Times bestsellers!

“A superb piece of popular art.”

  3. I read the first book in the series and though I didn't love it, I enjoyed it enough to want to read the next one. I'm glad they are expanding books to be in comics to and incorporating all types for readers. I do prefer the other covers through.

  4. They're nicer than the last set of Uglies covers, though not as good as the ones I bought years ago. Mine had decapitated Barbies in a surgery dish thing. Can't wait for Shay's Story to be released in the UK!
