When Carlos
Fuentes returns to America
after living in Mexico for a
year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid
out for him at a high school in Colorado
. Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just
like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is
completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another,
Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that
she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly
what Kiara needs right now.
Summary by Goodreads
In RULES OF
ATTRACTION it's the turn of second eldest Fuentes brother Carlos to find love.
His mother wants him to live with his older brother Alex, which fortunately
ends up in a big conflict. Carlos doesn’t want to stay and especially not fall
for the daughter of his host.
The story
is told from Kiara and Carlos' point of view which is great to get impressions
of their-very different- current life styles and thoughts. Carlos is once again a bad boy- sigh
- so prepare to fall for him. Kiara is a kind of boyish but at the same time
very cute girl, you'll like her!
I like
those stories that present a major conflict point in two very different
personalities being forced to spend time together and Carlos and Kiaria are definitely two of them!
What I
really like about RULES OF ATTRACTION are its secondary characters. Alex and
Brit are back and a permanent element of the story of the second PERFECT
CHEMISTRY novel. And they're not even
stuck, their story moves forward, too.
Writing and
authentic elements in form of Mexican-American culture are as good as in
PERFECT CHEMISTRY. Elkeles is an author who feeds her readers with cookies. She
writes many smoldering and sweet scenes between Carlos and Kiara until we are
stuffed and content in the end. I love cookies and there is always room for one
more (in form of CHAIN REACTION, sure!)
1) cookie
magnets are not only a fantastic prank idea but also delicious
2) at some
point it's time to play GI Joe
3)
sometimes the most hilarious dances are the horizontal
4) some
rules require to be broken
5) of
kisses between cars and rain
5/5 ***** Smoldering and charismatic! RULES OF
ATTRACTION is a fantastic sequel to PEFECT CHEMISTRY.
The PERFECT
CHEMISTRY series provided me with Fuentes charm, cookies and a great fictional
story. With RULES OF ATTRACTION Simone Elkeles wrote the receipt for a spicy
and mouth-watering YA novel.
